Margaret Hart

17 January 1973 – 6 August 2026

Margaret Hart, devoted mother and cherished friend, passed away on 6 August 2026 at the age of 53, after a short illness borne with characteristic grace and good humour.

Margaret spent over twenty years teaching art at her local secondary school, where generations of students remember her for her patience, her wit, and her insistence that everyone had at least one good painting in them. Outside the classroom she was rarely without a paintbrush or a cup of strong coffee.

She is survived by her two children, her sister, and a wide circle of friends who knew her as the first person to turn up with a casserole and the last to leave a party. Margaret approached life with warmth, humour, and an open door, and she will be dearly missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know her.

The family thanks everyone for their kindness and support during this difficult time, and warmly invites friends and former students to join them in celebrating Margaret's life.

Found this old photo of Mum from years ago while going through some boxes. Thank you to everyone who has shared such kind words this week.

  • The Nguyen Family

Margaret was our neighbour for over fifteen years and always had a kind word over the garden fence. She will be dearly missed on our street.

  • Helen Ashworth

Margaret was the kind of friend who noticed when you were having a hard week before you'd even said anything, and turned up with exactly what you needed. A wonderful woman, and so loved.

  • Sophie Ahmed

Mrs Hart taught me art for three years and completely changed how I see the world. She had a way of making you believe you could actually paint something worth looking at. Thank you for everything, Mrs Hart.

  • David Hart

Mum always knew exactly what to say to make a bad day better. We're going to miss her enormously, but it means so much to see how many lives she was part of, just from reading these messages.
